MANILA policemen arrested in an entrapment operation Thursday afternoon a suspected illegal recruiter who allegedly duped at overseas workers of close to P300,000 in cash after promising them nonexistent jobs in Korea and Japan. Operatives of the Manila Police District General Assignment Section (MPD-GAS) nabbed Roselyn Adriatico in an entrapment operation around 3 p.m. in a fastfood restaurant along Kalaw Street in Ermita. Case investigator Police Officer 2 Reginald de los Reyes said Adriatico agreed to meet at the fastfood restaurant with one of the complainants. As soon as Adriatico received the money from the complainant, MPD-GAS men announced the bust. Adriatico claimed she had been asked by employers in Korea and Japan to look for employees and that they could fly out of the country by October. ?Nobody has been authorized to conduct direct hiring. This is always facilitated through the POEA (Philippine Overseas Employment Agency),?said De los Reyes. The case investigator said that the seven complainants, all from Carmona, Cavite, allegedly gave Adriatico cash ranging from P20,000, P30,000, P40,000 and P73,000, totaling P253,000 as processing fee. De los Reyes said the complainants became suspicious of Adriatico when she did not answer any of their follow-up calls after they paid her the fee. The suspect is detained at the MPD-GAS holding cell after she was formally charged with illegal recruitment and large scale estafa in the City Prosecutor?s Office. Jeannette I. Andrade
Disqualification case vs Cayetano kin
THE BROTHER-IN-LAW of Taguig City Mayor Ma. Laarni Cayetano, who is running for barangay (village) captain in the Fort Bonifacio, is facing a disqualification case filed against him by his rival who claimed that the aspirant did not fulfill the residency requirement. In a petition filed at the Commission on Elections on Thursday, Ely Asyao said film director Lino Cayetano, the youngest sibling of Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano, ?failed to establish the required one-year residency period in the said barangay.? Asyao claimed that the younger Cayetano had voted in Bagumbayan in May during the national and local elections. ?Cayetano is a resident of Barangay Bagumbayan, the known residence of the Cayetano family and where he has always been a registered voter, until his sudden transfer of registration last Aug. 12, 2010. The same barangay is the declared residence of his brother, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and his sister-in-law, Taguig City Mayor Ma. Laarni Cayetano,? the petition read. Among the requirements for eligibility to run for the barangay elections is establishing the candidate?s residency of at least a year in the area where the person is running. ?This is an implied but equivocal proof that respondent still considers himself a resident of Barangay Bagumbayan as of May 10, 2010. Now he is claiming that he is a resident of Fort Bonifacio. Why then did he still vote in Bagumbayan in the last elections?? Asyao said. Miko Morelos
