MORET Street in Manila was named after Don Segismundo Moret, a Spanish minister who wanted to secularize higher education in the Philippines. Moret wanted to consolidate Ateneo Municipal, San Juan de Letran and other schools into one unit called ?Philippine Institution.? He also wanted to convert University of Santo Tomas into a ?University of the Philippines,? to be controlled by the government. Cyril L. Bonabente, Inquirer Research
