MANILA, Philippines?A 28-year-old welder was electrocuted as he was doing repairs in a ship docked at North Harbor in Tondo, Manila, on Tuesday afternoon.
Danny Ganoria, a welder of Diolyn Marine Service and a resident of Sangandaan, Caloocan City, was declared dead on arrival at the Philippine General Hospital due to third degree burns he sustained when more than 500 volts of electricity coursed through his body.
Investigation showed that the accident happened at around 3 p.m. on board the Ocean Unity Vessel which was docked at the North Harbor.
One of the victim?s colleagues, Eleazar Moncada, said they were welding the top portion of the ship?s seawater ballast when the victim accidentally touched the welding machine?s live electrical cable.
He said that due to the electric shock, the victim fell to the bottom of the ship.
His colleagues immediately took him to a hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the police were conducting an investigation to determine whether or not the victim?s employer should be held responsible for the accident.
