MANILA, Philippines--Ten persons, including two girls, were hurt after a wayward 10-wheeler truck rammed into several vehicles over a kilometer-long stretch of Sumulong Highway in Antipolo City Wednesday morning.
The accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. on a downhill portion of the highway near Francisville Subdivision, Barangay Mambugan, investigators said.
Rafael Villabrosa, the driver of the truck with plate number GPH 165, claimed he lost control of the vehicle after the brakes failed. It hit 13 vehicles, including a passenger jeepney, PO2 Robert Ganga said.
?The driver was unable to control the truck so it plowed into a parked jeepney, then it hit a Toyota Vios, then a Kia, and then an aluminum van and so on. It happened over a kilometer-long stretch of road,? Ganga said.
Some of the victims were walking or standing on the sidewalk when they were hit while the others were in the driver?s seat or at the back of the jeepney, the investigator said.
They were taken to Amang Rodriguez Medical Center in Marikina City for treatment, and all were in stable condition, Ganga said. He said the youngest among the victims were a 7-year-old and a 9-year-old girl while the oldest was 48.
