MANILA, Philippines -- Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized P2 million worth of desktop computers allegedly containing unauthorized software during a raid at an animation studio recently.
The target of the raid was Startoons Studios, located at Sycamore Building on V. Buencamino Street in Muntinlupa City.
Dante Bonoan, chief of the NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division, said the operation was prompted by a complaint filed by Microsoft Corp. and Adobe Systems Inc., represented by the Quisumbing Law Office.
Carrying search warrants issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Judge Cielito Mindaro-Grulla, agents raided the establishment and confiscated 43 sets of personal computers with unlicensed Adobe and Microsoft software as well as compact disks containing copies of Adobe software.
The owners of the establishment faces charges for violation of Republic Act 8293 (copyright infringement) or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
