Taguig City, Philippines—More than two months after it was ordered closed; the Taguig City government approved an application of the owners of the controversial Embassy Superclub to put up a new establishment.
The new bar, to be named Encore, will operate under the same management but with a different business concept.
Taguig City Vice Mayor George Elias said part of Encore’s entertainment concept was the inclusion of jazz nights, ballroom dance sessions, stand-up comedy acts, film screenings and Sunday bazaars.
“The business concept is entirely different from the Embassy we used to know. We believe this new concept will attract a more mature audience far different from the younger and rowdy crowd of the former Embassy,” Elias said.
The Taguig city government ordered the closure of Embassy Superclub and Embassy Cuisine in August following a series of brawls and unsavory incidents on or near its premises, including a stabbing incident involving a businessman. The suspect allegedly escaped with the connivance of the club’s employees. Embassy management was then asked to come up with a better business concept.
In a report dated Nov. 3, the Taguig City Council’s joint committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry, and Peace and Order and Drug Abuse Prevention endorsed the Encore proposal to the city’s Business Permit and Licensing Office, subject for final review and approval of the mayor.
The report said representatives from Encore informed the council of the new club’s stricter and tighter security measures.
According to the Encore management, the club will have 70 CCTV cameras and 52 security officers, apart from two security guards of the Ayala-owned commecial hub.
