MANILA, Philippines -- A woman tagged by the police as the financier and fence of a robbery group operating in Metro Manila and nearby provinces was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Caloocan City.
Supt. Procopio Lipana, San Juan police chief, identified the woman as Alicia Carriedo, a resident of 1729 Espiritu Compound in Barangay 8, Caloocan City.
Lipana said Carriedo, also known as ?Mommy,? was tagged as the fence of the Ramos-Samonte robbery group which burglarized a house in San Juan City recently.
He added that they got their information from a member of the group.
?She was positively identified by one of its members who provided details for us which led to her arrest,? Lipana said.
?She takes care of selling the stolen materials,? he added.
Lipana said a search of Carriedo?s house, which was authorized by a warrant issued by a Manila Regional Trial Court judge, yielded four firearms, airline tickets and a passport with a valid US visa.
According to the police official, the group?s modus operandi consisted of forcing their way into the houses they target and tying up the household members before making off with the victims? cash and valuables.
Lipana said that aside from robbery and illegal possession of firearms, Carriedo would also be charged with violating the antifencing law.
