MANILA, Philippines--With the city still reeling from floods that ravaged many of its villages, the Taguig City government got a much needed boost after it was cited for its efforts to reduce hunger in the city.
The National Nutrition Council (NNC) of the Department of Health recently bestowed Taguig with the Best Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program during the country?s 1st Gawad Pagkain Awards.
?This award proves that the city government is on the right track, not only in addressing the problem of hunger in Taguig, but also in ensuring that our program directly benefit our constituents,? Mayor Freddie Tiñga said in a statement.
?And it all the more gives us the inspiration to pursue our advocacy against hunger and malnutrition,? he added.
Apart from acknowledging local government units which support the national government?s hunger mitigation agenda, the award was also aimed at encouraging pioneering works in stemming hunger at the local level.
In the case of Taguig, the NNC recognized its efforts to introduce livelihood programs to residents while promoting home and school-based health and nutrition programs.
