MANILA, Philippines -- Rachel ?Che? Tiongson, the estranged partner of Deputy National Security Adviser Luis ?Chavit? Singson, withdrew Wednesday the civil case she filed against him in August for the sake of their five children.

Aida Dizon, Tiongson?s lawyer, said her client made the decision after consulting with several lawyers and family members.

According to Dizon, Tiongson also asked for the lifting of the temporary protective order issued by the judge against Singson.

Tiongson told the court about her decision in a closed-door preliminary conference briefing held at the sala of Judge Mary Quimpo Sale of the Quezon City regional trial court Branch 106.

She was accompanied by her mother and brother while Singson, who was also present, was with his close friends and lawyers.

Dizon said that during the meeting, her client and Singson both agreed that the foremr Ilocos Sur governor be given custody of their five children who are all minors.

?Singson will have custody, but Tiongson [has been given] unrestricted visitation rights,? the lawyer added.

Dizon said the matter of Singson giving financial support to Tiongson was not taken up during the meeting.

A source who was present during the proceedings which lasted for more than two hours told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that Tiongson and Singson talked for almost an hour with the judge before a compromise was reached.

Tiongson filed a complaint in August against Singson, her live-in partner of 17 years, claiming that he beat her up and her boyfriend, Richard Catral, inside their rented townhouse in Quezon City.

Singson initially admitted hurting Tiongson. However, he later said she should be grateful to him because he had saved her and Catral from being killed by the men whom he had hired to monitor their movements.
