Police file raps vs 14 on model’s death

MANILA, Philippines – Police have filed criminal charges against 14 persons in connection with the case of a male teenage model who fell to his death from a condominium building in Quezon City last month.

The 14 were allegedly with Benjie Peralta during the tragedy, but they failed to report the incident to the police and even left the condominium when they learned he had fallen to his death, said Supt. Gerardo Ratuita of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.

Ratuita said the involved persons were charged on Thursday with criminal negligence.

Charged were Manuel Osias, Rey Vacaro Llait, Ryan Lalin, Lucky Mercado, Jason delos Reyes, R.A. Carlos, Jeff San Jose, Angelica Lia Nakayama, Ann Santiago, and five others.

“They were with the victim at the time of his death but all of them left the area, didn’t report the incident and didn’t bring the teenager to the hospital for treatment,” Ratuita said.

Ratuita said police were unable to prove foul play in the incident because of lack of evidence.

Peralta fell from a unit at the Victoria Towers on June 24. Police were later allowed entry into the building and saw no sign of foul play and struggle inside the condominium unit.

Ratuita also said the testimonies of the people involved were consistent in saying the model jumped on his own.

The autopsy report earlier found traces of illegal drugs in Peralta’s body.
