MANILA, Philippines – Mariano Madera went to a spa on Wednesday night for a relaxing massage. He ended up with a big headache instead.
Madera, 74, who lives in Sta. Cruz, Manila, complained to the Manila Police District (MPD) that he lost P1.8 million worth of cash and jewelry, including a Rolex watch, which he had placed in a locker inside the Club Oasis Spa at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino in Ermita.
Investigators from the MPD theft and robbery section are eyeing an inside job in the robbery.
Police said all employees who were on duty when the theft occurred between 5 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, as well as some 18 people – including five club members – were being questioned.
In his complaint, Madera said he went to the spa at around 5 p.m. and immediately got a locker. He changed his clothes and left his belongings inside the locker.
When he returned an hour later, he found the door to his locker open but failed to find his Rolex watch worth P1.6 million; a diamond ring worth P100,000; P40,000 and $1,400 in cash. Madera said he had hidden these inside his shoes.
