MANILA, Philippines - Fifteen jeepney passengers, including a pregnant woman, were seriously hurt when their vehicle was hit by another jeepney at an intersection in Marikina City yesterday morning, the police said.
Among the victims were Geraldyn Yabut, 35, who was seven months pregnant; her husband Isagani Yabut, 49; their son Gerald, 7; William Paras, 28; Girlie Paras, 29 and their daughter Maria Melissa, 11.
Investigation showed that the accident occurred at 10:20 a.m. yesterday.
A report submitted by PO1 Ruben Esteves said the victims were in a jeepney (plate number CWK 149) with Esteban Baquiran, 60, behind the wheel when they were rammed by another jeepney (TXA 999) at the corner of E. Santos and Exequil Streets in Barangay Concepcion Uno.
The impact of the collision was so strong that the victims’ jeepney was thrown several feet away. It ended up upside down with many of the passengers pinned inside the vehicle.
The victims, many of whom were in serious condition, were rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center for treatment, the police said.
The driver of the second jeepney was identified by the police as Norberto Panganiban, 41.
