MANILA, Philippines—A laborer was shot dead on Labor Day as he was manning his stall beside the road in Quezon City. Efren Bustillo died due to several gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.
The Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said Bustillo, 24, was manning his store on Peseta Street in Phase 8, Barangay (Village) North Fairview when he was shot.
The victim, a fish vendor, died at around 8:10 p.m. while being treated by Dr. Jeremy Tan at the FEU Hospital in Fairview.
Initial investigation showed that Bustillo was waiting for customers at around 5:30 p.m. Friday when an unidentified man approached him and shot him.
Police Officer 2 Rizalino Evangelio described the assailant as between 20 and 30 years old. He was wearing a black jacket and a black baseball cap.
After shooting the victim, the gunman fled on foot toward Peseta corner Dollar Street, where another man aboard a motorcycle was waiting for him. The two then fled.
