MANILA, Philippines ? A senior official of television network GMA 7 has filed a P7 million damage suit against talent manager Annabelle Rama for allegedly harassing her.
In a 40-page civil complaint filed on March 17, Wilma Galvante asked the Quezon City Regional Trial Court to stop Rama from intimidating her either through media interviews or text messages.
Citing security reasons, she also asked the court to issue a restraining order against Rama, barring her from getting within 50 meters of the complainant.
Galvante is GMA 7?s senior vice president for entertainment while Rama is the manager of several artists, including JC de Vera, whose contract led to a disagreement between the two women.
In her complaint, Galvante said Rama sent her several ?malicious and hurtful? text messages after she talked to De Vera about his contract with the network.
She added that Rama had a ?violent streak? and that she was suffering from the ?uneasy and disturbing feeling that Rama may actually inflict bodily harm upon her.?
Galvante narrated that she received a message from Rama on Feb. 16 in which the latter called her ?a traitor? and vowed to get even with her.
?Plaintiff only realized the following day that the text message was just the start of a barrage of malicious and reprehensible statements aimed at destroying her reputation,? her complaint read.
Galvante claimed that under the Civil Code of the Philippines, everyone?s dignity, personality, privacy and peace of mind must be respected and that Rama ?deliberately deprived her of continuous enjoyment of those rights by her unlawful and malicious actions.?
She asked the court to award her P5 million in moral damages, P1.5 million in exemplary damages and P500,000 in legal fees.
Several tabloids and newspapers earlier ran stories on Rama?s accusation that Galvante bypassed her when the TV executive directly talked to De Vera about his contract with GMA 7.
Rama also claimed that Galvante had asked her for commissions in exchange for signing up some her talents.
?It is undeniable that defendant had clearly abused the exercise of her right and/or duty purportedly to protect her ward JC [de Vera], over the alleged harassment committed by the plaintiff against the latter,? Galvante said.
Reached for comment, Rama told the Inquirer that she would submit her reply on Thursday to Judge Henri Jean-Paul Inting of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 95 to whom the case was raffled off Tuesday.
?I will fight her, I will answer all her allegations,? she said, adding that she was just doing her job as a manager to protect her talents. With Bayani San Diego Jr.
