Burglars take P1-M watches, cameras from mall
Sometime between New Year’s Eve and Jan. 2, robbers broke into the department store of SM North Edsa in Quezon City and stole more than P1 million worth of jewelry and digital cameras. Supt. Moises Mabanag, head of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal and Investigation Detection Unit, said they were looking into the possibility of an inside job. “We are now investigating several people, including the mall’s security personnel,’’ Mabanag said. According to him, the theft probably took place between Dec. 31, after the store closed for the day, and around 2 a.m. on Jan. 2. PO3 Rogelio Basbas, officer on case, said the mall was closed on New Year’s Day. He added that the burglary was discovered only at 9 a.m. Friday when the store opened for business. Employees said someone broke the glass cases containing watches and digital cameras. Missing were 163 Lacoste watches, 54 Timex watches and 12 digital cameras. Nancy C. Carvajal
