Sketches of killers of solon’s aide out

MANILA, Philippines – The two cell phones of the slain chief of staff of Compostela Valley Rep. Manuel “Wai Kurat” Zamora could be the key in identifying the mastermind behind the murder.

Supt. Franklin Mabanag of the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) told the Inquirer that they were analyzing the contents of the two phones.

Police also released the artist’s sketches of suspects in the killing of Robert Delano, based on descriptions by two witnesses.

Delano was shot Wednesday morning inside a blue Toyota Fortuner SUV with a Number 8 congressional plate in front of his house on K-3rd St. in Kamuning, Quezon City by one of three armed men. The victim died an hour later at the Jose Delgado Memorial Hospital.

Mabanag said Zamora revealed that the victim had an unusually long conversation on his cell phone the day before he was killed.

The task force head, quoting Zamora, said “they were in Pulilan, Bulacan…when he noticed Delano walking away to talk to someone on his mobile phone.” Mabanag also disclosed that Delano was armed with a .45 caliber pistol when he was ambushed. “The gun inside his bag was licensed in his name but he was not able to use (it),” the police official said.

He added they had yet to talk to the victim’s widow, Marita. “We want to give her more time before we talk to her to see if she can give us leads on possible motives,” Mabanag said.

He said the suspects were “expert” hired killers from the way the murder was carried out. “They did not take anything from the victim’s car,” Mabanag said.

Based on descriptions by two witnesses, police said one suspect was medium-built, brown-skinned and black-haired The other was around 27 years old, 5’5”-5’6” tall, brown-complexioned and black-haired. The third suspect was slim, brown-complexioned and black-haired.
