MANILA, Philippines – Makati City is giving free anti-rabies shots and other perks to pets today in celebration of World Animal Day.
The city’s Veterinary Services Office will give free vaccination, deworming, neutering and consultations and other allied services at the City Hall quadrangle.
“The free services will be open to the public and will be available on a first come, first served basis,” said Dr. Vivien Manalastas, city veterinarian.
All kinds of pets – cats, dogs, and birds, as well as exotic varieties like pythons, iguanas and other reptiles – will also be treated for free.
After a Mass at 8 a.m., Rev. Cris Callen of the St. Paul Church will bless the animals and their owners.
Manalastas urged pet owners to take advantage of the free veterinary services that will be only available today.
“The pet owners’ cooperation can greatly help the city government in its anti-rabies campaign and in the promotion of responsible pet ownership among residents,” she said.
The city government will also give away freebies like dog or cat tags and collars, also on a first come, first served basis.
Last year, the VSO and Mayor Jejomar Binay signed an agreement with the Compassion and Responsibility towards Animals (CARA) group for the regulation and supervision of pet ownership in Makati.
