NFA warehouse robbed
Armed men robbed a warehouse of the National Food Authority (NFA) in Marikina City of an undetermined amount of money stashed in a vault Thursday evening. Police said the men barged into the NFA compound located along Ladislao Diwa Street, Concepcion Uno, disarmed the security guards and forced their way into the building. Warehouse employees were locked by the suspects inside the office before they escaped in a gray Toyota Tamaraw FX (Plate number SFV-907) and a van. Warehouse supervisor Edgardo Cepe immediately sought the help of the police, but pursuing law enforcers failed to find the suspects. In June, an NFA warehouse in Valenzuela City was also robbed by men who pretended to be members of the Philippine National Police Security Agency and Guard Supervision Division (PNP-GSD). The group duped security guards by saying they were visiting the compound to inspect the security guards. Beverly T. Natividad Woman’s body found in Tondo
The Manila Police District is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman whose body was found near a pile of garbage in Port Area, Tondo Wednesday night. The still unidentified woman, aged 45 to 50 years old, around 5’4” in height and clad in white t-shirt and black pants, bore multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of the body. MPD homicide division investigators said Abdul Rahim Kasma found the body around 6 p.m. near a heap of garbage at the Baseco Compound. Prior to the discovery, residents in the area claimed they heard successive gunshots, but did not investigate since it was raining hard at the time. Police said they were still trying to find out the victim’s identity and the motive for the killing. Tina G. Santos
Hot meat seized in QC raid
More than 2,500 kilograms of suspected “double dead” meat were confiscated by authorities during an early morning inspection at a public market Thursday in Balintawak, Quezon City. Led by representatives of the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), the raiding team swooped down on makeshift stalls selling hot meat outside the Balintawak Public Market in Barangay Apolonio Samson at around 1 a.m. According to a report from Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 2, NMIS agents, headed by Dr. Rolando Marquez and operatives of the local veterinary office, conducted the surprise inspection after receiving information about the rampant selling of hot meat in the area. Unscrupulous meat traders allegedly sell the meat at P90 per kilo, almost half the price of average pork meat in the market. The team, however, failed to arrest the vendors who were able to escape. Marquez said the confiscated meat did not have NMIS markings and so was not processed in any government-accredited slaughterhouse, adding that it could have come from hog farms in Bulacan.
