LRT 2 trains idle after 3-hour disruption

MANILA, Philippines – Train passengers were stranded Wednesday when the Light Rail Transit Line 2 limited its run Wednesday to just four stations because of a power problem.

Jinky Jorgio, spokesperson of the Light Rail Transit Authority, said they were forced to limit train operations at 8:42 a.m. due to a power fluctuation in one of its stations between Recto Avenue and Betty Go-Belmonte Street.

As a result, only the Araneta Center-Cubao, Anonas, Katipunan and Santolan stations were left operational. Full operations resumed at 11:46 a.m.
At press time, it was still not clear what had caused the power fluctuation.

The LRT Line 2 runs from Recto Avenue to Santolan Street and vice versa.

Jorgio said the reduced operations led to a loss of P500,000 in potential revenues from an estimated 39,000 passengers who failed to ride on the train.
