7 men selling pirated Pacquiao DVDs arrested

Policemen Tuesday arrested in Quiapo, Manila, seven people, including three minors, whom they caught selling pirated DVD copies of Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao’s fight against Mexican-American David Diaz. Arrested were Arjay Soriano, 29; Ryan Macmac, 19; Vergel Alupan, 19; Vicente Arcede, 23; and three others aged 16 to 17. The seven were vendors on Carriedo Street in Quiapo. They were charged with violating Republic Act 9239 (Optical Media Board Law) and Revised Ordinance 1119 (obstruction). Supt. Romulo Sapitula, head of the Manila Police District Station 3 (Sta. Cruz), said they were able to confiscate 300 pirated DVD copies of the fight titled “Lethal Combination: Pacquiao versus Diaz” when they raided the area at around 9 a.m.

Traffic rerouting in Pasig City for foundation day

The Pasig police have issued a traffic rerouting advisory for today’s celebration of the city’s 435th foundation day. Supt. Virgilio Fulache, head of the city’s traffic office, said almost all major roads leading to City Hall would be closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists are advised to watch out for signboards, rerouting advisories and directorial signs installed on the Rotunda intersection, San Joaquin intersection, A. Luna corner G. Raymundo Streets, Caruncho Avenue corner San Agustin Street and Dr. Sixto Antonio Avenue corner Pag-asa Street. Fulache said both lanes of Caruncho Avenue and part of F. Manalo (in front of City Hall) would be closed to traffic starting at 6 a.m. to give way to street dancing activities. Other streets which would also be closed are A. Mabini and Dr. Sixto Antonio Avenue. Fulache said all vehicles from the Rotonda intersection going to the city public market would be diverted to C. Raymundo Avenue then right to Mercedes Avenue and right to Market Avenue. All vehicles from Dr. Sixto Avenue [Maybunga and Rosario going to Rotonda] would be diverted to Pag-asa Street, then right to C. Raymundo. Motorists from San Joaquin going to the public market were advised to take Eliseo Road, left to M. Jimenez Street and left on F. Manalo. Nancy C. Carvajal

TV network official loses jewelry to maid

Manila policemen are looking for a housemaid who allegedly stole more than P120,000 worth of jewelry from a television network executive. Ma. Cathleya Baluga, 34, head of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.’s Broadcast Traffic Operations-Finance Division and a resident of Matienza Street, San Miguel, Manila, Tuesday filed a complaint with the Manila Police District’s Theft and Robbery Section against Isabel Simana. PO2 Marlon San Pedro said the incident happened between noon and 1:30 p.m. Monday. The victim said she left the suspect with her 9-year-old daughter when she went to work. When she arrived home around 8 p.m., she noticed that several cabinets in her room had been opened and her jewelry worth P122,500 were missing. The victim’s daughter told the police that the suspect left the house at around 1:30 p.m. and did not return. Tina G. Santos

Man loses wallet, appeals to taxi cab driver

Julian M. Maala, a resident of Quezon City, left his wallet inside a taxi cab with plate number TXJ 311 on June 27 at around 9:30 p.m. He is asking the operator of the taxi, M. P. de Belen, or the cab driver to return to him his senior citizen’s ID, AFPSLAI and other important documents. Maala can be contacted at 0921-2409644 or through his home address, which are indicated in his ID cards.
