2 men nabbed for rigging ATM
Two men suspected of tampering with an automated teller machine were arrested by policemen in Binondo, Manila, the other day. Supt. Nelson Yabut of the Manila Police District Station 11 said Bobby Tibo, 25, and Edwin Derla, 38, both residents of Phase II, Paliparan III, Dasmariñas, Cavite, were nabbed at around 2 p.m. at the Bank of Philippines Island branch at the corner of Ilang-ilang and Lavesarez Streets in Binondo. The two were arrested based on the complaint of Rowel Tagoldol, 34, a resident of Quezon City and Raul Paguranan, BPI’s ATM monitoring head. Tagoldol filed a complaint after the ATM did not dispense the P2,500 he was withdrawing from the machine. The bank management started monitoring the ATM and called up the police when they noticed the suspects hovering near the bank. The two men later confessed that they had tampered with the machine and with the use of aluminum foil and glue, had managed to “trap” the money inside the machine, long enough to make the customer think that the ATM was malfunctioning. After the customer left, the suspects retrieved the money dispensed by the machine. Allison W. Lopez
