MANILA, Philippines—The power could finally be restored Monday to the museum of the Armed Forces of the Philippines which has endured a year without electricity after an electric transformer outside the museum conked out last year.
AFP spokesperson Lt. Col. Ernesto Torres said the museum was expected to have lights and air-conditioning Monday if the delivery of a new transformer pushes through.
“I was told that the transformer might be delivered on Monday (today),” Torres told the Philippine Daily Inquirer (parent company of INQUIRER.net) over the weekend.
The lack of electricity and air-conditioning in the museum located inside Camp Aguinaldo has imperiled the priceless artifacts in its collection, including the uniform that Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo wore during the 1898 Revolution against Spain, some handwritten letters of Apolinario Mabini, and vintage military weapons.
The transformer that supplied electricity to the museum broke down on May 22, 2007 amid a heavy downpour, the museum staff had told the Inquirer. Nikko Dizon
