MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested on Thursday two men and recovered a 40-foot trailer truck containing assorted imported goods worth P20 million.

Alfredo Segovia, of Maypajo, Caloocan City, and Jose Padilla of Malabon City allegedly abandoned the truck Thursday night along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.

Supt. Franklin Moises Mabanag, of the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said they suspected the truck was stolen shortly after it left the Manila International Container Port (MICP). Mabanag said the truck’s contents could have been smuggled into the country as the suspects failed to present any bill of lading or permit from the MICP.

Mabanag said they received a call around 9:30 p.m. about an abandoned truck obstructing traffic at the corner of Tandang Sora and Commonwealth Avenues. Bystanders told policemen who went to the scene that they saw two men leave the vehicle.

Segovia claimed he was only hired to drive the truck, but could not show documents regarding the ownership of the vehicle and its contents.
