MANILA, Philippines – A 5-year-old boy drowned Wednesday night in a swimming pool inside a private resort in Quezon City.
Adrian Paul Novida, of 6-B Tiburcio Street, Barangay Krus na Ligas, Quezon City, died on the way to the East Avenue Medical Center.
Supt. Lino Banaag, chief of the Homicide Division of the Quezon City Police District, said the victim and two other 5-year-old boys slipped past the security personnel of Rhea’s Pool Resort on 60 Madasalin Street, Barangay Sikatuna around 6:30 p.m. He said they had ruled out foul play in the boy’s death.
“It was just an unfortunate accident. No one really wanted it to happen,” he told the Inquirer.
Banaag said the boys jumped into the swimming pool unnoticed by the caretaker.
Novida’s companions cried for help as they saw the victim floating in the five-foot deep pool.
Rommel Castrella, the resort’s caretaker, took the victim out of the pool but could not revive him.
Banaag said the resort owners offered to help the victim’s family although they were not liable for the incident.
