MANILA, Philippines -- A party celebrating their last days in high school ended grimly for seniors of the De La Salle-Santiago Zobel when one of them fell to his death at a hotel in Pasay City early Sunday, the police said.
Based on the investigation, Ambrosio Gregorio Robles, 17, a senior of the Alabang, Muntinlupa City-based school, fell either from the sixth or seventh floor of the Hotel Sofitel Philippine Plaza at about 3:30 a.m.
A security guard heard a thud, saw the victim?s body and rushed him to the San Juan de Dios Hospital, according to Senior Supt. Marieto Valerio, the Pasay City police chief.
But Robles, who sustained severe injuries in the head and body, died several minutes later. Whether his death was accidental or the result of foul play is still the subject of a police investigation, Valerio said.
So far, the victim?s school mates are reluctant to talk, he added. ?We?re having some difficulty interviewing his classmates because they came with their parents and their lawyers,? Valerio said in a phone interview.
The police official said the school had booked a function room at the hotel for their graduation ball the night before, and some of the students later checked into the establishment.
