Before the Quezon Bridge crossing the Pasig River was constructed in Quiapo, Manila, there was the Puente Colgante (suspension bridge), also known as Puente de Claveria.
Inaugurated in January 1852, the bridge was built using the most advanced European technology at the time. Contracted for the project was a French engineer who used a steel structure imported from England.
