NBI soon to issue clearance renewal cards

MANILA, Philippines -- Transacting business with the National Bureau of Investigation will soon become easier. To accommodate the growing number of people renewing their NBI clearance, the bureau launched last Friday the Clearance Renewal Card (CRC). The NBI CRC is a card that is fed to an automated teller machine-like equipment called the Automated Clearance Machine (ACM). The ACM then processes the application and prints a valid NBI clearance for the cardholder. The new technology, which was made possible by Mega Data Corp., aims to reduce the long lines at the NBI clearance center in Sta. Cruz, Manila. The NBI will soon start issuing the clearance renewal card in its kiosks at different malls nationwide. Tina G. Santos

Free parking for QC’s elderly proposed

Three Quezon City councilors are pushing for the passage of a resolution which requires establishments to let senior citizens park their vehicles for free. Councilors Jorge Banal Jr., Antonio Inton Jr. and Jesus Manuel Suntay cited Republic Act 9257 which provides grants and privileges that would enhance the living condition of all elderly Filipinos and aims to establish programs beneficial to them. The city government, they said, should extend other incentives to its elderly constituents. Should the resolution be passed by the City Council, a copy would be distributed to all operators of establishments with pay parking areas in Quezon City. Jeannette I. Andrade

Travel agents robbed

Two employees of a travel agency lost P200,000 to thieves in Manila last Friday afternoon. Police identified the victims as Juliemar Dequina, 46, of Makati City and Jocelyn Zamudio, 43, of Sta. Cruz, Manila. Chief Insp. Benigno Macalindong, chief of the Manila Police District Theft and Robbery Section, said the incident happened at the Travel Plaza Agency on P. Ocampo Street, Malate. The suspects entered the travel agency and posed as customers before robbing the victims of their valuables. Tina G. Santos
