Metro cops now armed with Tasers
CHIEF Inspector Carlos Dilag of the Malabon police howled in pain Wednesday after a device now being introduced among the ranks of the Metro Manila police was tested on him. “I could not move because the current flowed very fast,” said Dilag after he recovered from the shock of being hit by a Taser round. At least 38 police officers from the five police districts and the public safety battalion of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) completed their training Wednesday on the use of Taser weapons, which were described by its distributor as “nonlethal.” “We need to use this kind of weapon to avert casualties,” said NCRPO Director Nicanor Bartolome who attended the demonstration at Camp Bagong Diwa. “This is not designed to kill.”—Miko Morelos
