Do’s and don’ts for voters

ALL registered voters whose names are on the Posted Computerized Voters List or Election Day Computerized Voters List, or whose registration records have not been canceled or deactivated, may vote in the May 10 elections!

For all of you who intend to vote and are qualified, here is a checklist of what you can and cannot do when you go to exercise your right.

DoDoDoDoDoDoDo

Check out your assigned voting precinct location/school before May 10 to avoid the crowds and any delay.

Be at your precinct early on Election Day. Voting starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. Only registered voters who are in front of the polling place, specifically within 30 meters, will be allowed by the poll clerk to vote after 6 p.m.

Listen carefully because your name will only be called three times.

Look for your name on the PCVL posted near the door of the voting center to find out your precinct and sequence numbers.

Take note of your sequence number as it has to be given to a BEI member in the precinct.

Bring authentic documents that can establish your identity should it be challenged. A barangay or community tax certificate is not acceptable.

Listen carefully to the BEI chair?s instructions on how to fill out the ballot.

Make sure the BEI chair affixes his/her signature on the EDCVL after verifying that your fingernail is not stained with indelible ink.

Check that he/she authenticates your ballot by affixing his/her signature in the designated space on the ballot.

Make sure the BEI chair inserts the ballot in the secrecy folder with the front covered, except for the portion with his/her signature, before it is given to you. Only the BEI chair can issue ballots and you can only get one ballot.

Check that the ballot is clean and without marks before accepting it.

Mark the ballot only with the pen provided by the Commission on Elections.

Fully shade the ovals beside the names of your candidates. Erasures and stray marks may cause the PCOS to reject the ballot.

If the ballot is rejected by the PCOS during scanning, you may reinsert it. However, if the ballot gets rejected after three more tries, you should return it to the BEI chair.

If the ballot is rejected, make sure the BEI chair marks the back of the ballot ?rejected? and members of the board sign it before it is put in the envelope for rejected ballots. No replacement ballot will be issued.

Put your objections, if any, in writing, regarding rejection of your ballot. The board will attach your objections to the minutes.

Put your thumb mark on the EDCVL before leaving the polling place.

Don?tDon?tDon?tDon?t

Don?t speak to anyone in the polling precinct except members of the BEI.

Don?t bring the ballot, secrecy folder or marking pen outside the polling place.

Don?t fill in your ballot without using the secrecy folder.

Don?t fill in your ballot when there is another person in the booth, unless you are illiterate or disabled.

Don?t erase any printing on the ballot or put any distinguishing mark.

Don?t use carbon paper or other means to copy the contents of your ballot (this includes digital cameras, cellular phones with camera and similar gadgets).

Don?t tear or deface the ballot.

Don?t disrupt the normal operation of the PCOS.

Don?t carry any firearms or deadly weapons into the polling place.
