POC ELECTIONS
Nat’l archers say Brawner not qualified

MANILA, Philippines?Leonora Brawner is not qualified to contest a vital position in the coming Philippine Olympic Committee elections.

Enrique ?Kit? Cojuangco Jr., spokesperson of the national archers, aired this view Tuesday, explaining that Brawner resigned two years ago as president of the National Archery Association of the Philippines and is therefore ineligible to seek a post in the local Olympic body.

Cojuangco presented documents showing Brawner tendered her irrevocable resignation on Jan. 24, 2006.

Brawner is seeking a slot in the POC board under the ticket of incumbent president Jose ?Peping? Cojuangco Jr. in the Nov. 28 polls.

Based on the POC charter, a candidate for the polls should at least serve as NSA president, vice-president or secretary general the past two years.

After quitting in 2006, Brawner was designated by the Philippine Sports Commission and the POC to head a special committee for archery, specifically for the country?s campaign in the 2007 Thailand Southeast Asian Games.

?We were actually forced to agree to this special committee in order for us to compete (in the SEAG),? said Cojuangco, skipper of the archery team to the 2007 SEA Games.
