Do not make the haram or unlawful acceptable

In all its legislation and moral injunctions, Islam lays great stress on nobility of feelings, loftiness of aims and purity of intentions. The Prophet (peace be on him) said:

Halal is sufficient and haram is superfluous

One of the beauties of Islam is that it has prohibited only such things as are unnecessary and dispensable, while providing alternatives which are better and which give greater ease and comfort to human beings. This point has been explained by Ibn al-Qayyim. Allah has prohibited seeking omens by drawing lots but has provided the [...]

Benefits of Islam

Islam provides many benefits to the individual as well as society. This chapter mentions some of them.   The Door to Eternal Paradise, God has said in Qur’an: And give good news (O Mohammad) to those who believe and to good deeds, that they will have gardens (Paradise) in which rivers flow….(Qur’an, 2:25) God also [...]

Human rights and justice in Islam

Islam provides many human rights for the individual. Here are some of them: The life and property of all citizens in an Islamic state are considered sacred, whether a person is Muslim or not. Islam also protects honor. Insulting others or making fun of them is not allowed. The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) said: “Truly your [...]

Muslims all over the world start and observe the fasting of the holy month of Ramadhan upon the sighting of the appearance of the New Moon, that was on July 8, 2013 (Monday) then the following day (Tuesday) should be the first day of Fasting but the group of ULAMA failed to see the appearance of the New Moon. Nature of democracy in Islam

Allah has promised to those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will assuredly make them  succeed (the present rulers) and grant them vicegerency  in the land just as He made those before them succeed.’ The verse illustrates very clearly the Islamic theory of state. Two fundamental points emerge from it. 1.The [...]

Covenant with Allah

The word ‘ilah’ found in the Kalimah means God. Only that being can be our God, the Master, Creator, Nourisher and Sustainer, who listens to our prayers and grants them, and who listens to our prayers and grants them, and who alone is worthy of our worship and obedience.

Political theory of Islam

With certain people it has become fashionable to identify Islam or one or the other system of life in vogue at the time. There are also people who say that Islam is a democracy, and by this they mean to imply that there is no difference between Islam and democracy in the West. Others suggest that Communism is but the latest and revised version of Islam and it is in the fitness of things that Muslims imitate the Communist experiment of Soviet Russia. Still others whisper that Islam has the elements of dictatorship and we should revive the cult of ‘obedience to the Amir’ (the leader).

The humbleness of Muhammad

Only one concession was required from Muhammad in return for that, to give up calling people to Islam and worshipping God alone without any partner. Wouldn’t this offer be tempting to one pursuing worldly benefit? Was Muhammad (P.B. U.H) hesitant when the offer has made? Did he turn it down as a bargaining strategy leaving the door open for a better offer? The following was his answer: (In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful) And he recited to Otba the verses of the Qur’an 41:1-38. The following are some of these verses:

The simple life of Muhammad

If we compare the life of Muhammad (PBUH) before his mission as a prophet and his life after he began his mission, we will conclude that it is beyond reason to think that Muhammad was a false prophet, who claimed prophethood to attain material gain, greatness, glory or power. Before his mission as a prophet, [...]

What is education?

For most of us, education means going to a place called school where teachers enrich us with their wisdom. Well, let’s consider what the real world has to do with all of that. Do we really need to memorize stories of ancient cities and dead political leaders? Do these things really enrich us? Or is it the lessons we learn independently that compromise the greatest growing experience? I find it interesting to see a famous person, who spent all his professional life holding top level positions at major corporations, summarize the greatest of his life’s experiences in a book detailing what he had learned at summer camps. Does this not suggest that the realizations we come to while exploring our world together with other people are the most meaningful?

How does someone become a Muslim?

Simply by saying with conviction, “La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadun rasoolu Allah,” one convert to Islam and becomes a Muslim. This saying means “There is no true god but God (Allah), 2 and Muhammad is the Messenger (Prophet) of God.”
