WASHINGTON DC, United States?A convicted murderer was put to death in Texas Tuesday, making it the state's 50th execution so far this year, state penitentiary officials said.
Franklin DeWayne Alix, 34, shot and killed a man after kidnapping and raping his sister in 1998. He was administered a lethal injection and pronounced dead at 6:20 pm (2320 GMT), prison officials said.
Both his own family and his victim's family witnessed the execution.
"I am not the monster they made me out to be," said Alix before passing on. "I made lots of mistakes that took your son. I'll take it to my grave. I will be at peace."
It was the 50th execution so far for Texas, which by far has put more inmates to death than any other US state. It was the country's 452nd execution since the US Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976.
