6.4 quake strikes western Pacific—USGS

VANUATU?A strong 6.4 magnitude quake struck near Vanuatu in the western Pacific Thursday, with an epicenter 213 kilometers (132 miles) from Santo (Luganville), the US Geological Survey said.

No tsunami warning was immediately issued.

The USGS said the quake struck at a depth of 200 kilometers (125 miles), 476 kilometers (296 miles) north-northwest of Port-Vila, Vanuatu, and more than 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) northeast of Brisbane, Australia.
