Every year Mulsims all over the world used to confirm their commitment to God as readiness to forsake material interest in his service to God. And community observance of this will fall every 10th day of DHUL-HIJJA corresponding to Nov. 27, 2009. Prophet Abraham was commanded by Allah through his vision or dream thrice at Mount Arafat Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to fulfill his promise after years had passed. It it could be remembered that every year prophet Abraham used to sacrificed/slaughter 1,000 rams, 400 cows and 300 camels as Qur?Ban.

During the time of the prophet Abraham, his followers, and the angels witnessed the generosity and the goodness of Abraham by slaughtering all of his animals as offering-QUR?BAN to be distributed among poor and needy Muttaquin / Believers as food. Aside from this, prophet Abrahan said: ?If ever Allah will bless me with a son at my age of 90 years when there is no hope to bear a child, I will slaughter on the way of ALLAH as ?QUR?BAN? years had passed, thus; ALLAH has reminded him to fulfill his promise through his three (3) times dreams at Mount Arafat, so prophet Abraham fulfilled his promise obeying the order to both father and son prophet ISMAEL that both of them were ready in following ?ALLAH? unquestioningly, including his wife for their love and devotion to God. But the son?s life was spared and ransomed by a ram from ?ALLAH? through his angel Gabriel. If God the Almighty doesn?t made the ransom as favor, the slaughtering of QUR?BAN every year will be our most beloved child as annual devotion to God.

Hence, the offering of the Sacrifice has become an annual celebration to commemorate the occasion and thanks to God for his favors.

Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) peace be upon him said: ?the Khair ? Goodness of my Ommat ? followers is their slaughtering of QUR?BAN, (RAM ? or GOAT) as a way of sacrifice ransom for Ismael. ?The destruction of my OMMAT ? followers is their none slaughtering of QUR?BAN? Ram on the Day of EIDIL-ADHA? known as the estival of Sacrifice. The meat will be distributed to the needy and poor as charity for the community. The ?EIDIL ADHA? 2009 QUR?BAN ? will be on Friday Nov. 27, 2009 corresponding to the tenth day of DHULHIJJA 1430 HIJRAH Calendar after every congregational prayer (KHOTBA).

The beloved wife of prophet Mohammad (P.U.H.) AISHA, may Allah bless her, asked him: OH! Messenger of God, is QUR?BAN exclusive for our family? Prophet Mohammad (P.U.H.) replied, ?This is for us as family and to all believers in general.?

Every 10th day of Dhul Hijja after completion of the course of Hajj-pilgrimage in Masjidil Haram, Mecca, Saudi Arabia. QUR?BAN DAY is the fulfillment of our devotion to God. ALLAH says in the Holy Qur?an?: ?On the day in hereafter we will assemble the Mottaquin ? believers on the way to RAH?MAN ? ALLAH, riding on their QUR?BAN thus Allah will command his angel not to let the Mottaquin ? believer walk with their two feet but to ride on the QUR?BAN slaughter by him/her or slaughter by his father, mother for him. But if none was fulfilled during his life time in this world He/She will be riding on the back of his father and mother going to the MAHSHAR ? assembly waiting on the day of judgement. Moreso if He/She failed to do so He/She would be dying as nonbelievers.

With this paramount devotion to God, the Cebu Muslim community will highlight the commemoration by slaughtering goats and cows as fulfillment of the tradition immediately after EIDIL-ADHA Prayer at 9 a.m. ?QUR?BAN? animal meat will be given to the poor and needy, for consumption. This Halal meat distribution will harmonize relationship among community members of varied cultural social understanding and promote peace in the country.

Metro Cebu Muslim communities have their own way and place to slaughter animals in conformity with their usual traditional celebrations.
