LEGAZPI CITY – At least 399 persons were stranded at the ports of Sorsogon and Masbate provinces Tuesday after the Philippine Coast Guard-Bicol cancelled trips due to the approach of tropical depression "Urduja" to Leyte.
In Sorsogon, 237 passengers bound for Masbate province were stranded in Pilar port and 162 in Bulan port, the PCG said in its 10 a.m. report.
The 44 passengers also stranded in Bapor port in Masbate.
The report added that nine trucks, seven cars, seven buses, and 13 fishing vessels were also stranded in the different ports.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration raised public Storm Signal No. 1 in Masbate and Romblon in Luzon.
In the Visayas, Signal No. 1 was raised over Eastern and western Samar, Biliran, Leyte provinces, Cebu, Camotes Island, Bohol, Negros provinces, Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Iloilo and Guimaras in Visayas.
Pag-asa also placed under Signal No. 1 the following provinces in Mindanao: Camiguin, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat and Siargao Island in Mindanao.
