MANILA, Philippines—A Moro Islamic Liberation Front commander suspected of involvement in the beheading of 10 marines in Albarka, Basilan, in 2007 was arrested in Zamboanga City on Saturday, police said.
Philippine National Police Director General Jesus Verzosa said Asnawi Addan Salah, commander of the MILF 114th Base Command, was accosted by Western Mindanao police office and Special Action Force operatives at the Zamboanga International Airport.
Verzosa said Salah was among 130 people charged in the July 10, 2007, killing of 14 Marines, 10 of whom were beheaded.
He said Salah was facing nine counts of murder and four counts of frustrated murder in Isabela City.
The suspect was taken to the Western Mindanao police headquarters at Camp Abendan for questioning, Verzosa said.
Regional police commander Chief Superintendent Angelo Sungalao declined to provide details, saying Salah was undergoing tactical interrogation.
