CEBU CITY-- Two unidentified men shot and injured a former town vice mayor and killed his wife, Wednesday night, in Barangay (village) Mantalongon, Barili, 65 km south of Cebu City.
Gina Ponsica, 45, was declared dead on arrival at the South General Hospital in Naga City, Cebu, with a gunshot wound in the chest, while her husband, former Barili Vice Mayor Luisito Ponsica, 46, was shot in the abdomen and still in critical condition as of Thursday, the police said.
SPO2 Zalde Orillo of the Barili police said two men wearing masks reportedly shot the victims just as the wife got out of their car and was about to open the gate to their house past 8 p.m.
Orillo said they were looking at robbery as a possible motive for the attack. He, however, did not say if cash or any valuables were taken from the victims.
The couple, he said, has been engaged in copra trading.
