BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines - An official of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD in Negros Occidental has urged the party’s national leadership to consult members in the provinces on the formation of its national slate and on the plans to field provincial candidates.
Negros Occidental Gov. Isidro Zayco, provincial chairman of Lakas-Kampi, said the national directorate has not had time to talk to local party members on the choices for the senatorial ticket, which local members would campaign for.
Zayco said certificates of candidacies would have to be filed anytime from Nov. 20 to Nov. 30 and he learned about the scheduled party convention scheduled for Nov. 19 only from the newspapers.
Zayco said that if the party was planning to field a gubernatorial bet in Negros Occidental, it should consult with its party mates in the province.
There have been rumors that the administration party may field Rep. Jose Carlos Lacson (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) or Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) head Rafael Coscolluela for governor against the United Negros Alliance (UNA) bet, Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon Jr.
Zayco said he was at the launching of the gubernatorial bid of Marañon and had committed to UNA, an alliance of members of various political parties including those from Lakas-Kampi-CMD.
Asked what he would do if the Lakas-Kampi-CMD fielded a gubernatorial bet other than Marañon, Zayco declined to say what his next move would be.
"I will cross the bridge if there is a bridge to cross," he said.
Zayco has plans to run as mayor of Kabankalan City in 2010.
