ILAGAN, Isabela, Philippines—Forty low-lying villages here were flooded Wednesday as incessant heavy rains during the night caused rivers to overflow their banks, officials said.
Ilagan Mayor Josemarie Diaz said affected families were moved to safer ground and were given relief goods.
He said he also ordered the suspension of classes at all levels and as well as work at local government offices because of the floods.
He said one person identified as Martin delos Santos, 45, of Barangay Aggasian, was reported missing after he was carried away by the current while trying to salvage wood set adrift.
The Magat dam did not release any excess water Wednesday as the reservoir’s water was within normal levels, said Saturnino Tenedor, dam and reservoir division chief.
