KIDAPAWAN CITY, Cotabato, Philippines—Arakan town mayor Romulo Tapgos has ordered the local police to investigate and identify the suspects who planted landmines at a roadside in the village of Tumanding on Saturday.
Tapgos said the two landmines failed to explode as residents immediately reported the incident to the local police.
The Explosive and Ordnance Disposal team of the Philippine Army rushed to Tumanding and detonated the explosives.
The Army’s 57th Infantry Battalion uses the village road where the unexploded landmine was found.
Tapgos said the landmines can rip apart a cargo truck.
Last month, a landmine also exploded along the highway in President Roxas town but no one was injured.
In June last year, a landmine exploded in the village of Luna Sur, Makilala town, North Cotabato province killing two militiamen. The communist New People’s Army operating in hinterlands of Makilala owned the attack.
