MANILA, Philippines – Petron Corp. on Monday appealed to government agencies to help supply residents in Northern Luzon with fuel, following the devastation caused by typhoon “Pepeng” that have rendered several major highways impassable.
In a statement, Petron Chairman Ramon Ang called on the Departments of Energy, Public Works and Highways, and local government units in Baguio City and Pangasinan to help the oil firm’s tankers in traversing highways closed due to landslides or floods to provide the areas with fuel.
In Baguio City, Ang said that because three roads leading to the city have been closed due to landslides, the oil firm was unable to deliver fuel to the city since Friday.
The Naguillan, Marcos Highway and Kennon roads that lead into the city were impassable due to landslides.
However, Ang said that the DPWH has informed them that Kennon Road will be open to light vehicles Monday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. going to Baguio with a load limit of only 10 tons.
“Our solution to the problem of keeping within the load limit is to underload three tank trucks with diesel and gasoline so that they will be able to make their way to Baguio through Kennon Road. We are hoping that the DOE can help us with the DPWH and LGU to give priority to these trucks so that we can provide fuel supply to the residents in Baguio at the soonest possible time,” Ang said.
He added that the oil firm is re-supplying several areas in Pangasinan with fuel through its Limay Terminal in Bataan and Poro Depot in La Union.
Ang, however, said that getting to some areas in Pangasinan remain difficult due to floodwaters but “our tank trucks are ready to deliver fuels as soon as the floodwaters recede.”
“We wish to assure the DOE and the public that we are doing everything possible to make fuel products available especially in areas affected by Typhoon Pepeng,” Ang added.
