LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Some 700 passengers were stranded in different ports in the Bicol region on Friday in light of rains and heavy seas churned up by tropical depression "Ondoy" as it approached Central and Northern Luzon, a report from the Philippine Coast Guard said.
The report said that as of 11 a.m., the port in Tabaco City in Albay had the most stranded passengers with 239.In Camarines Sur, 200 passengers were stranded in Pasacao port; 70 in Sabang; and 41 in Tamban.
About 150 passengers were also stranded at the Virac port in Catanduanes,the Coast Guard report said.
Also stranded in the different ports were 21 trucks, seven small cars, a passenger bus and seven motorized boats.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on its website that the center of the tropical depression was located 180 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 400 kilometers east southeast of Casiguran, Aurora as of 10 a.m. Friday.
It was expected to move to within 140 km. east southeast of Casiguran, Auroraby Saturday morning.Signal No. 1 has been raised in the provinces of Aurora, Quirino, Isabela, Nueva Ecija, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes.
Pagasa added that Ondoy was expected to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over Central and Southern Luzon and Visayas.
