TAGUM CITY, Philippines -- A mild quake shook Compostela Valley and parts of Davao del Norte on Sunday night, state seismologists on Monday said.
The 4.0-magnitude earthquake which occurred at 9:21 p.m. was also felt in Davao City, Eleazar Georgio, science researcher of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) said.
The quake’s epicenter was traced 83 kilometers of this city at a depth of about a hundred kilometers, Georgio said.
A bulletin issued by Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity 2 (the tremor is felt by people at rest) in Compostela town, and outlying areas.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, was not strong enough to cause infrastructure damage or casualties, Georgio said.
The Philippines sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire where continental plates collide, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
