NAGA CITY, Philippines – A nephew of the vice mayor here was killed while two others were wounded in a road accident in Milaor town, Cmarines Sur province on Tuesday, police said.

Joseph Hidalgo, 20, died on the spot while his companion, Henry delos Reyes was injured after their motorcycle hit another motorbike driven by Willian Gados, 46, who was also wounded, according to a police report.

Hidalgo is the nephew of Naga City Vice Mayor Gabriel Hidalgo, the report said.

The collision occurred in San Vicente village at around 4 a.m., as Hidalgo and Delos Reyes were outrunning a traffic enforcer who tried to apprehend them for overspeeding, it said.

Hidalgo hit an acacia tree trunk and died on the spot. Delos Reyes and Gados suffered bruises after the impact of the collision threw them to a grassy area.

The attending physician at the Mother Seton Hospital in Naga City found traces of alcohol on the victims, Police Officer 2 Aldrin Amaro of the Milaor town police said.

Amaro said Hidalgo and Delos Reyes were drinking liquor with friends before the incident.
