TAGUM CITY, Philippines -- A confessed New People's Army rebel who has admitted participation in attacks that led to the capture of several soldiers in Compostela Valley, has surrendered to the authorities, the police said Friday.
Chief Inspector Levitico Estay, spokesperson of the Davao del Norte police, identified the rebel only as Ka Ian.
He said Ka Ian handed a Carbine rifle when he yielded on Thursday through a friend.
Estay said Ka Ian confessed his participation in the abduction of several Army soldiers in Compostela Valley, including that of Lt. Vicente Cammayo, Sgt. Raul Reyes and Pfc. Marjun Gatela.
"I grew tired of the hardships and hunger while constantly evading government forces in the hills. I want to live a normal life so I decided to leave the movement," Ka Ian later told reporters here.
Estay said Ka Ian will receive P10,000 for turning in a firearm and another P70,000 in financial and livelihood assistance.
