MANILA, Philippines—The military announced on Thursday the arrest of the two wives of Abu Sayyaf leader Albader Parad and four others at a checkpoint, two hours after the bombing in Jolo, Sulu, on Tuesday.
They were carrying more than P100,000 in cash and cellular phones, which the military claimed could have been used to detonate bomb
Navy spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Edgardo Arevalo said one of Parad’s wives took care of Mary Jean Lacaba, a volunteer of the International Committee of the Red Cross, who was kidnapped together with two other ICRC volunteers but was released in the summer.
Of the three ICRC workers kidnapped, only Italian Eugenio Vagni remains with the Abu Sayyaf kidnappers.
