LEGAZPI CITY—Celso de los Angeles Jr., founder and owner of the failed Legacy Group of Companies, has resumed his duties as mayor of Sto. Domingo town in Albay province.
He had taken a leave of absence to seek treatment for his cancer of the tonsils, a municipal official said.
Mercy Baloloy, assistant chief of the municipal government’s Barangay Affairs Division, said De los Angeles, known to his constituents as “Boss Boy,” had recently returned and attended Monday morning’s flag ceremony.
Finding it difficult to speak, the mayor waved and shook hands with his staff and other employees, who gave him a warm welcome, Baloloy said.
The mayor did not call for a press conference as he could not speak for long.
“He is still recovering from his illness but he told us that he wanted to make sure his projects and programs in the town would continue as planned, especially the assistance to poor residents through free medicines and rice subsidies,” Baloloy said.
Pina Balonso, General Services Office chief, said she was happy that De los Angeles was back. At the same time, she said Vice Mayor Edna Banda did a good job in the mayor’s absence.
Baloloy said barangay officials met with De los Angeles to prepare for the coming town fiesta on Aug. 8 and for the mayor’s birthday on Aug. 6.
