BATANGAS CITY, Philippines — A village chairman was shot dead by gunmen inside his house in Calaca town, Batangas Monday, police said.
Senior Superintendent Jesus Gatchalian, Batangas police director, identified the victim as Primitivo Rio, village chairman of Quizumbing, Calaca.
Gatchalian said that at around 10:20 a.m. Monday, a certain Lyndon Mendoza, of Barangay 4 in Calaca town, and two others arrived at Rio’s residence allegedly to get a barangay clearance.
Rio was writing when the armed men shot him four times.
He sustained bullet wounds in the neck and different parts of the body.
Rio was rushed to Don Juan Mayuga Provincial Hospital in Lemery, Batangas but was declared dead on arrival.
Police recovered four empty shells and a slug for .45-caliber pistol.
The gunmen immediately left after the killing.
Police were considering personal grudge as motive for the killing.
