MANILA, Philippines--A mild earthquake shook the Mindoro area on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The quake had a magnitude of 5.1 and occurred at around 8:42 am.
The epicenter was estimated at 53 kilometers southwest of Tagaytay City. The quake was tectonic in nature with a depth of 95 kilometers.
It was felt in Batangas City and Puerto Galera at Intensity 2.
It was the second quake in the area during the week.
Last Tuesday at around 12:30 am, a magnitude 4.5 quake also hit the Mindoro area, according to the US Geological Survey.
The quake had a depth of 76.9 kilometers with the epicenter was estimated at 40 kilometers west of Calapan, Mindoro, and 55 kilometers south southwest of Batangas.
The Philippines lies in a region called the “Pacific Ring of Fire” that is characterized by high levels of tectonic and volcanic activity.
