LUCENA CITY -- A public school teacher in Buenavista town, Quezon, was shot dead by still unidentified assailants Thursday afternoon, a police report said Friday.

Inspector Arvin Asis, Buenavista police chief, identified the victim as one Adventor Alfuerto, 50, teacher-in-charge of Batabat Elementary School.

The police report said the victim was inside his house in the town proper when a hitman, armed with a handgun of still unknown caliber shot him in the chest. Another man acted as a look-out.

The teacher died on the spot, police said.

After the shooting, the assailants escaped towards a forested area at the back of the nearby Buenavista Central Elementary School.

Police have yet to establish the motive for the killing.

"But we're looking into the connection with a child abuse case filed against the victim several years ago," Asis said over the phone.
